The Rules at Hog Dog

K9 Nose Work noseworklogo ®

Have you heard about K9 Nose Work? Beginning in July Hog Dog will be offering K9 Nose Work classes with a Certified Nose Work Instructor, Cindy Knowlton.

In March of 2010 Cindy was rehabbing a dog who had been on exercise restriction for an extended period of time, and heard about an exciting new sport called K9 Nose Work.  She thought it might be answer to giving him the mental stimulation he needed while his body healed, so she enrolled in the first seminar in the mid-Atlantic region.  Little did she know how powerful this training would prove to be.  In addition to offering her injured dog an outlet to burn off some energy, it also brought confidence out in a dog she adopted when he was nine years old, whose training had been minimal.  Additionally it provided a second job for her retired agility champion, who was delighted to be working again, and her current competition dog as well.  So encouraged by what she observed at that first seminar, she formed a practice group before ever leaving the event, and they continue to meet weekly.  In January of 2011 she began teaching Nose Work classes as a K9 Nose Work apprentice, and in June of 2011 became a Certified Nose Work Instructor (CNWI) by the National Association of Canine Scent Work (NACSW).

What is K9 Nose Work?

Tapping into a dog's natural hunting instinct, K9 Nose Work is a fun activity for dogs of all ages, sizes and abilities. Whether your dog is a pet, retired or up and coming in a performance dog, shy, reactive, or has other issues that prevent them from attending other dog classes, if your dog has a nose, he can play!  Play at home or choose to compete, the sky's the limit in how K9 Nose Work can work for you and your dog.  You'll be amazed with your dog's scenting abilities. The nose knows!
